Tedd Patterson

ImageVeteran globetrotting DJ, producer and remixer, Tedd Patterson is internationally recognized as a leading talent in the dance music scene and has become renowned for his infectious signature sound, which reflects a diverse array of influences and transcends simple categorization. His wickedly innovative sets are an intoxicating blend of contemporary and classic dance music styles that seamlessly meld driving percussive tribal beats, minimal techno textures, throbbing progressive house, soaring Afro -Latin grooves and the occasional, rare classic to create a furiously unbridled journey through dance music's multicolored soundscape where past, present and future collide in a harmonious pulsating soundtrack.

Tedd has been tearing up dancefloors for over two decades steadily solidifying his reputation as a master craftsman of adventurous, tough, relentless, and wildly dynamic sets. Whether headlining with Italy’s “Angels of Love”, delivering frenzied dancefloor workouts at the WMC's seminal “Magic Sessions” (along with house music icons Louie Vega and Tony Humphries), manning the decks alongside Danny Tenaglia, Frankie Knuckles, Danny Rampling, Steve Lawler, Chus and Ceballos or Dimitri From Paris, or dispensing propulsive aural assaults at his 6-year running, Saturday night monthly “Vibal” residency (at New York’s premiere hotspot Cielo), Patterson continues to craft intensely varied grooves and packing dancefloors - making him a favorite in dance clubs around the world.

What has kept him at the forefront of the dance music scene has been his insatiable desire to explore various musical genres and his refusal to be categorized (or confined) into any particular style. This ability to enthusiastically challenge himself and experiment with forward-thinking energetic sets is deeply rooted in the unconventional traditions of influential house music pioneers like Larry Levan and David Mancuso, as well as, the renegade club DJs and radio jocks from the early 80s “disco not disco” and synth-pop dance music era.

My sets have always been about fusion, Tedd explains. I'm not an old school soul, classics or gospel house DJ, I'm adventurous, and my musical repertoire is very diverse. I like the soul that exists in a variety of musical forms.  What appeals to me most is the fusion and contrast…that's most obvious in how I program my sets.   I’m not afraid to take a chance and that has become my signature…and that works for me.

Since his early days growing up in Savannah, Georgia, Tedd was developing a fascination with diverse styles of music. Raised on a steady diet of soul music, he would later discover disco and the emerging underground club scene as a teenager in the late ‘70s. He was infatuated with the pulsating rhythms and how they transfixed and liberated the dancers. However, it was the role of the DJ that inspired him most. The idea of orchestrating that kind of magic through the records you selected and played was awe-inspiring.   Tedd immediately began crafting his own eclectic style of mixing soulful grooves with peak-hour intensity.

During the ‘80’s his reputation reached new heights as he relocated to Atlanta and began rocking the club scene combining alternative and left-field styles of dance music with disco, underground house and hip-hop. He played at several notorious underground haunts frequented by friends / soon-to-be famous club personalities Larry T., Lady Bunny and RuPaul. In 1985, he was granted the coveted (and much-deserved) position as a Billboard reporting DJ (a position he held until 1991), validating his hard work and growing success. But when he discovered the burgeoning “house music” sounds emanating from New York and Chicago, his career took off.  Tedd launched a weekly residency dedicated to house music at Atlanta's now-famous club Colorbox and he quickly found himself playing to packed crowds. His parties not only attracted the city's most dedicated music lovers, soon industry execs from up and down the east coast were in attendance.
